The new Sena 10S Bluetooth System is part of a new generation of Sena systems running on the latest Bluetooth technology, but the 10S and its Sena siblings remain faithful to the great Sena features and functions riders have come to know and love over the years.

The 10S is set to eventually replace Sena’s popular SMH10 system, and while it’s visually and functionally very similar to its excellent predecessor, the 10S comes with a few refinements and tweaks that make it clear who the new Bluetooth in town is.

Key differences between the 10S and the SMH10:

Bluetooth version 4.1

Bluetooth version 4.1 delivers improved reliability and audio quality for streaming. It’s also more efficient than version 3.0, and that translates to energy savings.

Thinner

The 10S is quite a bit thinner than the SMH10 (flatter against your helmet). The diameter of the unit is about the same. Yes, it will fit the side port of the Bell Qualifier DLX helmet.

Longer intercom range

The 10S adds about a half-mile of intercom range to that of the SMH10, bumping it up to 1 mile in open terrain.

Heavier-duty clamp mount

We never had any problems with the previous mount, but Sena still gave the 10S a new, beefy metal clamp. Overall the 10S has a more durable feel and look to it, though it should be said that durability has never been an issue with Sena’s consistently high-quality products.

Improved audio

The SMH10 was renowned for its audio quality, but the 10S’s improved ambient noise control, better speakers, and HD sound take things to the next level by delivering an even better crystal clear, precise audio experience. Yes, you still have the option to plug in your own speakers in lieu of the ones included.

Cross-brand pairing

The two top Bluetooth manufacturers, Sena and Scala, are now enabling their units to pair with those of other manufactures. The 10S has that capability, too, and that’s great news. You can communicate with others in your riding group even if you don’t all opt for the same brand Bluetooth system.

The Rest of the Story

Riders have always loved Sena systems for their excellent audio performance and ease of use, made possible by the patented Jog-Dial control wheel. Now, the 10S takes it to the next level, featuring the latest technology and software for even better performance across the board, with a full complement of the features you would expect from a top-of-the-line Bluetooth system.

You can intercom with other riders, or interplay with a smartphone, GPS, or MP3 player to stream music, talk on the phone, or listen to directions.

In a nutshell, the Sena 10S is a winner for riders looking for a very capable, very current Bluetooth system that is as seamless as it is easy to use.
