Icon’s grand-mammy of helmets, the Airframe, is new and improved, and reviews are letting us know the new Icon Airframe Pro helmet is on a higher level.

As the only Icon helmet, aside from the Variant, to feature a composite shell, the Airframe Pro will remain at the very top of Icon’s lineup. The Airframe’s advanced shell incorporates fiberglass for sturdiness and impact resistance, Dyneema for abrasion resistance, and carbon fiber for strength, impact deflection, and impact distribution.

Looking beyond the shell material, Icon built some major changes into the Airframe Pro, making it quieter and lighter, while managing to maintain its claim-to-fame airflow.

Ventilation

Changing up the Airframe’s namesake ventilation this drastically could have been a mistake; turns out it was a total win. Icon dumped the large dual intake vents running across the top of the Airframe in favor of three closeable forehead vents. The result is a ton of airflow pushed around your forehead and pulled through the channels running back across the crown of the EPS when you pop those vents open. The redesign has also significantly quieted down the wind and turbulence noise levels characteristic of the Pro’s predecessor.

From a safety standpoint, the new ventilation system is a win, too. The forehead vents mean no more huge holes cut into the crown of the EPS and shell–an effective but less than ideal venting tactic used in the original Airframe.

Shell Shape

Built for peak performance on a sportbike, the aerodynamics, angles, and lines of the Airframe Pro are optimized for speed. The large new cutout at the back of the helmet is to prevent the collar of your jacket or suit from rubbing against the base of the helmet when you’re tucked in. Icon cut down on the bulk and weight of the helmet considerably, as well.

Liner System

Icon Airframe Pro 5-Piece Liner Sets are sold as an optional add-on for every helmet size in “tighter” and “looser” thickness variations, so you can tweak the fit of your helmet that much more than you could before. Every Airframe Pro helmet comes with the “normal” thickness 5-piece liner set. Replacement sets are available for $45.00

The Icon Optics Tracshield is another new addi tear-off posts is now available for Icon Airmada and Airframe Pro helmets for $40.
