The new-for-2016 Bell Star helmet is more to love from a brand that never stops innovating and reaching ahead. Over the years, we’ve waited anxiously for every new helmet released by our neighbors in Scott’s Valley, and helmet-by-helmet they have built a catalogue of number #1 hits that span from pro-level performance to entry-level lids for riders on a budget. The newest Bell Star is a perfect intersection of those two worlds–a Snell-certified, race-inspired helmet boasting all-around excellence for riders on the freeway, back roads, or weekends at the track.

Featuring major advancements in the areas of aerodynamics, safety, and comfort, detailed below, the new Star is lighter and quieter than both the previous Bell Star and the now-retired RS-1. Add on a totally new shield that offers an incredible field of view and an airtight seal, and it’s hard not to hold the Bell Star up as the gold standard in its class.

Here are some of the highlights of the new Bell Star helmet:

New Panovision Shield and Shield System

Though impressive across-the-board, the new shield system is by far the feature we love the most about the new Bell Star, and it is shared by all three helmets of the new Star line. The Panovision Shield is thicker and more rigid, with a center lock and a redesigned hinge mechanism, all working to give the shield an airtight seal without any flex or distortion. Early test riders and our own preview of the Star revealed a remarkable field of view, both laterally and vertically, providing a safety edge on the street and performance advantage on the track.

Streetview: Optimized For the Street

The Star features Bell’s Streetview profile, which lets you know the aerodynamics and ventilation are optimized for riding a standard or sport bike in an upright position or in a moderate tuck. Designing a helmet around the style and needs of the rider makes it possible for engineers to build a quieter, more stable helmet.

Tri-Matrix Composite Shell

Bell’s Tri-Matrix shell is a blend of aramid, carbon fiber, and fiberglass, to achieve the best balance of strength and weight savings, at a budget-friendly price.

Bell Graphics!

As usual with Bell, the graphic options hit the mark while departing from the status quo. At just $50 more than the solids, it’s hard not to justify going home with your favorite graphic. But there’s always a compelling argument to go for classic matte black, especially when the finish and lines look this good.

Jump up to the Race Star or Pro Star for improved impact dispersion and cushioning in an accident (Bell’s premier ‘Flex’ shell), a lighter weight, and more race-oriented profile, among other benefits. All three Star models will be eligible for Bell’s Custom Fit program.
