Description

For a number of years now, Arai has quietly been working away developing the newest member of their Corsair family. The result is a helmet that today represents a giant leap forward for the line, and establishes a new zenith of performance, safety, and comfort for Arai helmets. The Corsair X replaces the Corsair V for 2016, and this time around Arai’s uber-premium, pro-level track helmet was designed as much with regular riders like you and I in mind, as much as it was designed to meet the needs of the fastest riders on the planet.

Keep reading to delve into some of the details that make the Arai Corsair X so revolutionary, like its new, quieter vents, and the all-new shield-change system that makes Arai shield swaps a piece of cake for the first time ever.

When you’re ready to see it up close and personal, visit us and spend some time with the very latest, very greatest Arai helmet: the Arai Corsair X.

VAS Shield

The biggest advancements introduced in the Corsair X are centered around the new VAS (Variable Axis System) shield, which allows for quick and easy shield changes, and also improves the safety of the shell.

Though traditionally Arai’s side pod system has made shield removal and installation a bit of a challenge, the purpose has always been to enable the cutout for the shield’s pivot mechanism to be kept shallow, thus maintaining more of the strength of the shell. The side pods for the Corsair X’s VAS shield are even shallower, in fact 2mm thinner than those of the Corsair V. But it gets better–the new VAS shield works much like any other quick-change shield. A tiny lever releases the side pods, which swing open so the shield can be easily removed in seconds.

(Below: With side pods completely removed to show the VAS mechanism.)

The pivot mechanism and side pods of the VAS shield are also smaller in diameter and sit lower on the helmet, creating a larger area of smoothness above the shield and around the pods. This idea of smoothness and roundness is critical to the Arai safety philosophy; a round helmet is a strong one, and a smooth surface is more likely to ‘glance off’ objects during real-world angled impacts in the event of an accident.

In short, the Corsair X’s VAS shield makes life a whole lot easier AND keeps riders on the road and on the track safer.

Quieter, More Effective Vents

One of the facts of life of previous Corsair helmets has been a somewhat noticeable wind noise level, though that could be said of most helmets designed for optimum airflow on the racetrack. But street riders like their helmets to be quiet, so Arai set out to make the Corsair X as quiet as possible. A subtle redesign of the large diffuser vents and a complete redesign of the top center vent resulted in improved aerodynamics and seal, and much less wind noise in both closed and open vent positions. The improved diffuser vents deliver 19% more air intake, while the new IC Duct-5 in the center flows 11% more air than the previous design.

Improved Interior For Comfort and Safety

The Corsair X features Arai’s new Eco Pure liner, which is anti-microbial, pH neutral with the skin, and resists dirt built up better than previous materials. The interior is highly refinable to better fit each unique wearer, featuring removable temple pads and crown pad, and peel-away cheek pads. Arai even provided a little bit more room in the chin area in response to rider feedback.

PB SNC² Shell

The PB SNC² shell is Arai’s latest version of their most advanced shell construction technology–an extremely strong fiber composite enhanced by Peripheral Belting (PB) that further reinforces the shell in the critical area above the shield. Each shell is handmade by one of Arai’s only fifteen shell experts and, like all Arai helmets, is subjected to the most rigorous quality control standards in the industry.
