Old Santa Cruz Highway To Capitola Ride
Old Santa Cruz Highway to Capitola
One-Way/Round-Trip Distance: 37 miles/74 miles
Total Riding Time: 1 hour, 50 minutes
The southern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains is full of single-lane back roads and offers a vast web of ride potential. But taking the beautiful and mellow Summit Road and Old Santa Cruz Highway (Soquel/San Jose Road) route to the sea is a great way to get acquainted. Once in Santa Cruz, there’s no shortage of great places to stop for a bite, but we recommend Silver Spur for a hearty breakfast or the Ugly Mug on the corner of Old Santa Cruz and Soquel for a quick caffeine boost. Cruise through Capitola-By-The-Sea to top off your morning before heading back home.
Map Notes: You can take Highway 17 back to San Jose, but we wouldn’t recommend it for riders just starting to branch out. The speed, curves, and tight traffic of 17 require the skill and confidence gained with experience to navigate safely.
