Highway 9 Beach Run Ride

BY Road Rider MCA - August 16th, 2015

7. Highway 9 Beach Run

One-Way/Round-Trip Distance: 50 miles/82 miles

Total Riding Time: 2 hours

While the famous part of Highway 9 between Saratoga and Skyline Boulevard (see Highway 9 and Skyline Boulevard to Alice’s Restaurant) has been mostly tamed by the CHP and slow-moving autos, anything goes on the backside of the mountain. This Redwood ride down the Santa Cruz side of Highway 9 is fast and twisty, and not suitable for complete newbies. As always, let faster traffic pass and take it easy while getting to know the road.

Once you’ve woven your way down into the valley you’ll pass through the woodland towns of Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond, and Felton. If you rode on an empty stomach stop at Jenna Sue’s Cafe (Dessert First Bakery) in Boulder Creek for the best breakfast in town, or Coffee 9 in Ben Lomond is a good spot to get a breakfast sandwich and a caffeine fix.
